What is an invoice generator?

An invoice generator is a tool that helps you build a professional billing document with business details, customer details, line items, tax, and totals — then download or print it. The Web6 invoice generator runs in your browser so freelancers, agencies, consultants, and GST-registered businesses can create invoices without creating an account.

What information an invoice should include

Typical invoices include a document title and number, invoice date, due date, supplier and customer details, item descriptions with quantities and rates, tax breakdown, grand total, payment instructions, and optional notes or terms. Indian GST tax invoices often also include GSTIN, HSN/SAC codes, place of supply, and CGST/SGST or IGST.

How GST invoices work in India

A GST tax invoice records taxable supply with tax components based on place of supply and registration details. This tool calculates common scenarios and labels CGST, SGST, or IGST for convenience. It does not submit e-invoices to government portals and is not a substitute for professional tax advice.

CGST vs SGST vs IGST

For many domestic supplies within the same state, GST is commonly shown as equal CGST and SGST shares. Interstate supplies commonly use IGST. The generator can auto-select based on supplier state and place of supply, or you can override the split when your situation differs.

Invoice numbering guidance

Use a consistent series such as INV-2026-0001 or FY26-27/001. Keep numbers unique within your books. The tool can warn when a number already exists in local history, but you remain responsible for compliance with your accounting process.

Invoice payment terms

Payment terms explain when payment is due and how to pay. Add bank details, UPI ID, IFSC, SWIFT/IBAN, PayPal, or a payment link. Optional payment QR codes on the PDF are for payment convenience — not official GST e-invoice QR codes.

Proforma invoice vs tax invoice

A proforma invoice is often a preliminary bill or quote-style document. A tax invoice is typically used for taxable supplies under GST. Choose the document type that matches your workflow and verify requirements with a qualified professional.

Quote vs invoice

A quote or estimate proposes pricing before work is accepted. An invoice requests payment for goods or services supplied. You can convert a quote workflow into an invoice by changing the document type and dates when ready.

Credit note vs invoice

A credit note adjusts or reverses amounts previously invoiced — for returns, corrections, or allowances. Use the Credit Note document type and confirm tax treatment with your advisor.

Privacy and local browser storage

Drafts and saved invoices stay in this browser. Clearing storage, private mode, device changes, or shared computers can remove data. Browser extensions may also access local data. Export JSON and download PDFs for important records. Do not treat browser storage as your only backup.

Common invoice mistakes

  • Missing or duplicated invoice numbers
  • Incorrect place of supply or GST split
  • Wrong HSN/SAC or tax rate for an item
  • Incomplete customer GSTIN or address
  • Relying only on browser history without PDF/JSON backups

FAQ

Invoice generator FAQ

Practical answers about privacy, GST fields, PDFs, and local storage.

Is the Web6 invoice generator free?

Yes. The Web6 free invoice generator is free to use with no account or paid plan required for PDF download, local save, print, and import/export.

Do I need an account?

No. You can open the tool, create an invoice, and download a PDF without signing up or signing in.

Where is my invoice data stored?

Invoice drafts, history, logos, and business profiles stay in your browser using sessionStorage, localStorage, and IndexedDB. Web6 does not store invoice form content on its servers.

Does Web6 save my invoices on its server?

No. The tool is designed so invoice details, customer data, GST numbers, line items, logos, signatures, and payment details are not sent to Web6 servers for storage.

Can I create GST invoices?

Yes. You can create tax invoices with GSTIN, HSN/SAC, place of supply, reverse charge, CGST/SGST or IGST split, cess, and common GST rates, plus custom rates.

Does it support CGST, SGST, and IGST?

Yes. In auto mode, same-state supply splits GST into CGST and SGST; different states use IGST. You can also override the split manually.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, or WebP logo (recommended max 2 MB). Images are resized in the browser and stored locally — they are not uploaded to Web6.

Can I download invoices as PDF?

Yes. PDFs are generated entirely in your browser with selectable text. Filenames follow invoice-{invoice-number}.pdf.

Can I print an invoice?

Yes. Use Print to open your browser print dialog. Print styles hide site chrome and focus on the invoice preview.

Can I save invoice history?

Yes. Saved invoices are kept in this browser’s IndexedDB. Use Export JSON and PDF downloads as backups — browser storage is not a secure backup.

What happens if I clear browser data?

Clearing site data, using private browsing, switching devices, or uninstalling the browser can permanently remove local invoices. Export or download important files first.

Can I export my saved invoices?

Yes. Export a single invoice or all invoices as JSON, export a CSV summary, and import a previously exported JSON backup after validation.

Can I create quotes?

Yes. Choose Quote / Estimate as the document type, then download or print like any other document.

Can I create credit notes?

Yes. Select Credit Note as the document type. Negative amounts are supported where appropriate for adjustments.

Can I create purchase orders?

Yes. Purchase Order is available as a document type alongside delivery challans and receipts.

Can I use multiple currencies?

Yes. Major currencies including INR, USD, EUR, GBP, AED, and others are supported via Intl.NumberFormat. Live exchange-rate conversion is not included in version 1.

Can I add a UPI QR code?

Yes. You can add a payment or custom QR code for UPI, a URL, or custom text. This is not an official GST e-invoice QR code.

Is this an official GST e-invoice generator?

No. It does not connect to the Invoice Registration Portal and does not create government-validated e-invoices. Use it for professional invoice PDFs and local calculations only.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes. On smaller screens you can switch between Edit and Preview tabs. Touch targets are sized for mobile use.

Is invoice data encrypted?

Data stays in your browser’s storage. Web6 does not add a separate encryption layer beyond what your browser and device provide. Shared devices and extensions can access browser data.

Can I use it offline?

After the page and scripts load, editing and PDF generation work offline in typical browsers. A full offline PWA cache is optional and not required for core use.

How do I delete saved data?

Delete individual invoices from History, or use Clear all local data after confirmation. You can also clear site data in your browser settings.

Can I create invoices without GST?

Yes. Set tax rates to 0% or choose no GST split labels for non-GST invoices and international billing fields.

Does it support international tax fields?

Yes. Alongside Indian GSTIN/PAN fields, you can use Tax ID / VAT, multi-country addresses, and major currencies.

Can I recover deleted invoices?

No automatic recovery is available after delete or clear. Only previously exported JSON backups or downloaded PDFs can restore content.
